Work Completed at 158 Waterlogging Points in Gurugram; New Drain on SPR Road to Benefit Old City Areas

Public Participation Essential for Pollution Control and Environmental Protection: Industries & Commerce Minister

Gurugram, May 10

Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister Rao Narbir Singh said that the State Government and district administration have made extensive advance preparations to prevent waterlogging during the upcoming monsoon season, ensuring that citizens do not face inconvenience during heavy rainfall.
Addressing a felicitation ceremony organized by the RWA at Sector-15 Part-2 in Gurugram as the Chief Guest, the Cabinet Minister stated that lessons learned from last year’s monsoon management have been carefully incorporated into this year’s planning and execution strategy.

He informed that 158 waterlogging points were identified across Gurugram last year, and continuous corrective work has been undertaken at these locations. The objective is to ensure smooth drainage and avoid water accumulation during the rainy season.

The Minister further said that he is personally monitoring the progress of ongoing works through regular review meetings with administrative officials to ensure timely completion and effective implementation of all flood-management measures.
Providing details of the works underway, Rao Narbir Singh said that the cleaning of Leg-1, Leg-2 and Leg-3 drainage systems is being carried out continuously. In addition, a new drain has been constructed along SPR Road, which will facilitate smooth drainage of rainwater flowing from the Ghata Chowk side toward the old city area. This intervention is expected to significantly reduce waterlogging pressure in old Gurugram during heavy rains.

Highlighting the importance of environmental protection, the Industries and Commerce Minister appealed to citizens to actively participate in maintaining a pollution-free environment. He said that the Haryana Government has enforced a ban on the use and sale of polythene since 2013, and the Pollution Control Board is regularly conducting inspection drives and taking action against violators.
He emphasized that public cooperation is essential for ensuring a clean, safe and sustainable environment for future generations.

Expressing concern over rising AQI levels in the Delhi-NCR region, the Minister said that while the government is continuously implementing measures to control pollution, active participation by citizens remains equally important. He urged residents to undertake plantation drives every year and stressed that proper care and maintenance of planted saplings is necessary to ensure environmental sustainability.
