Farmers Adopting DSR Method of Paddy to Get Rs 4,500 Per Acre Incentive

Government Offering Subsidy of Up to Rs 40,000 on DSR Machines; Applications Open Till June 15

Sonipat, June 2

Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh has appealed to farmers in the district to adopt the Direct Seeding of Rice (DSR) technique, emphasizing its significant role in water conservation and reducing cultivation costs. She said that the Haryana Government is promoting the use of this modern farming technology by providing an incentive of Rs 4,500 per acre to farmers who sow paddy through the DSR method.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that a target has been set to bring 20,000 acres under direct paddy sowing in the district during the 2026-27 season. She said that DSR technology is beneficial not only for farmers but also for the conservation of groundwater. Compared to traditional paddy transplantation, the DSR method significantly reduces water consumption and lowers labour as well as production costs.

She further stated that the department of agriculture and farmers welfare is implementing various schemes aimed at increasing farmers’ income and reducing cultivation expenses. Farmers adopting the DSR method will receive an incentive of Rs 4,500 per acre directly into their bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Deputy Director of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Department, Dr. Praveen Gulia, said that with the paddy sowing season approaching, farmers should opt for DSR technology instead of conventional methods. He noted that the technology offers economic advantages while also helping conserve water resources, which are crucial for future generations.

Dr. Gulia explained that paddy crops sown through the DSR method receive better ventilation and sunlight, resulting in improved crop growth. The crop is also less prone to lodging, while the incidence of pests and diseases remains comparatively lower. Consequently, farmers can achieve higher productivity and better economic returns. To encourage the adoption of DSR technology, the government is also providing subsidies on modern agricultural equipment. Farmers purchasing DSR machines will be eligible for a subsidy of 50 percent of the machine cost or a maximum of Rs 40,000, whichever is lower.

He informed that farmers can apply online for the subsidy on DSR machines through the departmental portal until June 15, 2026. To avail of the subsidy, farmers must be registered on the Meri Fasal-Mera Byora portal. Dr. Gulia said that applicants will be required to upload the valid registration certificate (RC) of their tractor, Family Identity Card, Aadhaar Card, bank account details and other necessary documents while applying. He also emphasized that registration on the Meri Fasal-Mera Byora portal is mandatory for availing the incentive provided for direct paddy sowing.

Appealing to farmers across the district, he urged them to adopt DSR technology to promote water conservation and modern agricultural practices while taking maximum advantage of the government schemes. He said that the technology would play a significant role in enhancing farmers’ income and protecting groundwater levels in the state. For further information, farmers may contact their respective Agriculture Development Officer, Block Agriculture Officer, Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer, or the office of the Deputy Agriculture Director.
