Sonipat, May 7

To protect livestock from deadly diseases such as Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) and Hemorrhagic Septicemia (HS), the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department of the district will conduct a vaccination campaign. The objective of the campaign is to safeguard livestock and strengthen the economic condition of livestock owners. Under the National Animal Disease Control Programme (NADCP), the 11th phase of the joint vaccination campaign will commence from May 11. Approximately 2.57 lakh animals in the district will be vaccinated under the campaign.

Sub-Divisional Officer, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department, Sonipat, Dr. Baljeet Singh Dalal, stated that the campaign will be carried out in mission mode. For this purpose, 56 special teams comprising veterinarians and department staff have been constituted. These teams will visit villages and households to vaccinate animals. He said that vaccination would protect animals from serious infectious diseases, thereby maintaining livestock productivity and reducing financial losses for livestock owners.

He further informed that the main symptoms of Foot-and-Mouth Disease include high fever, blisters in the mouth and hooves, excessive salivation, difficulty in walking, and sudden decline in milk production. Hemorrhagic Septicemia, on the other hand, is a severe and fatal infection characterized by high fever, breathing difficulties, swelling in the neck and throat, and in many cases, sudden death.

Dr. Dalal said that a digital record of each animal will also be prepared during the vaccination campaign. Livestock owners have been urged to ensure registration of their animals so that better monitoring of animal health can be carried out in the future.

He added that all departmental teams have been instructed to ensure that no animal is left out of the vaccination campaign and that the programme is implemented effectively and with complete seriousness. The department has appealed to livestock owners to vaccinate their animals on time in order to minimize the risk of infection and keep the district’s livestock safe.
