Rohtak Administration Launches Intensive Drive for Clean Water, Drainage & Sanitation Ahead of Monsoon

Rohtak, April 25

In a major push ahead of the monsoon season, the district administration Rohtak has intensified efforts to ensure clean and adequate drinking water supply, efficient drainage systems, and improved urban sanitation across the city.

Deputy Commissioner Rohtak Sachin Gupta said that uninterrupted potable water supply and prevention of waterlogging are top priorities, directing all concerned departments to complete critical works within stipulated timelines. He emphasized that all drains and nallahs must be cleaned by May 31, 2026, and drainage systems made fully functional through coordinated inter-departmental efforts.

Reviewing ground-level progress through field inspections, the administration has identified key bottlenecks and accelerated infrastructure development. Projects worth ₹16.5 crore have been approved for laying around 45 km of drinking water pipelines, along with replacement of damaged lines and expansion of the network. Additionally, a new water storage structure costing ₹27 crore is being constructed, which will enhance storage capacity by approximately 2.5 days. A 4.5 km, 900 mm pipeline is also being laid to replace open water channels and improve supply efficiency.

To strengthen drainage, a new 1 km drain will be constructed on Gohana Road at a cost of about ₹1.5 crore, while existing drains on major stretches such as Sonepat Road, Delhi Road, and Sheila Bypass are being repaired. Unconnected drains are also being linked with the sewer network. Special attention is being given to waterlogging-prone areas including Chhotu Ram Chowk and MDU Gate. The administration has also announced strict enforcement measures, including daily challans against those dumping cow dung or waste into sewers and drains. Departments have been instructed to maintain zero tolerance towards sanitation violations and negligence.

As part of the sanitation drive, waste collection has been intensified, with immediate clearance of garbage from identified hotspots. During inspections, directions were issued to clear waste near CR Polytechnic College, improve drainage near MDU Gate, clean sewer lines near the Sector 3–4 culvert, and ensure proper disposal systems near Appu Ghar. Deputy Commissioner Gupta urged citizens to cooperate by avoiding dumping waste in drains, using authorized garbage collection systems, and sharing suggestions for improving sanitation. He added that proactive planning, strict enforcement, and public participation are key to ensuring a clean, water-secure, and flood-resilient Rohtak before the onset of monsoon.
