Tarn Taran, June 16
In a major push to strengthen public safety, the Tarn Taran administration is set to roll out a city-wide CCTV surveillance network with the installation of 175 high-resolution cameras at 42 key locations. The ₹1.60-crore project aims to curb crime and enhance policing through real-time monitoring.
Announcing the initiative, MLA Harmeet Singh Sandhu said the advanced surveillance system will be monitored from the Police Control Room, enabling authorities to track suspicious activities, identify offenders, and assist in criminal investigations.
The project also includes the installation of 41 Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras, which will automatically record registration numbers of vehicles entering and exiting the city. The system is expected to improve traffic surveillance and help police trace vehicles linked to criminal activities.
According to the MLA, the wiring work has already been completed and poles have been installed. The entire project is scheduled to be completed before August 15.
Sandhu expressed confidence that the technology-driven initiative would significantly strengthen the city’s security infrastructure and help curb crimes such as robbery, snatching, and extortion. He added that the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is undertaking several development projects for the holy city alongside the surveillance initiative.
