Food Safety Department initiates legal action under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 against defaulting dairies
Adulteration in food items will not be tolerated at any cost – Assistant Commissioner Food Dr. Pannu

Acting on the directions of the Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Punjab, a team constituted by the headquarters under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner Food, Dr. G.S. Pannu, collected 12 samples of milk and milk products from various dairies in Amritsar city on May 21, 2026, and sent them for testing to the Food Laboratory, Kharar. Out of these 12 samples, 2 were found unsafe, 6 were found substandard, while only 4 samples passed the quality test.
Providing details, Dr. G.S. Pannu stated that from Gill Dairy, Adda Gonsabad, Ram Tirath Road, two samples of paneer were taken, out of which one was found unsafe and the other substandard. Similarly, a milk sample taken from Guru Nanak Dairy, Ram Tirath Road, Putlighar, was found substandard.
He further informed that one paneer sample and one milk sample from Guru Dairy, Putlighar, were also found substandard. A curd sample from Sharma Dairy, Putlighar, was found substandard. A paneer sample from Chhabra Dairy, Putlighar, was also found substandard. Additionally, a paneer sample collected from Dhillon Dairy, India Gate, was found unsafe for consumption.
Dr. Pannu stated that legal action has been initiated against the dairies whose samples failed, under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. He emphasized that keeping public health as a top priority, adulteration in food items will not be tolerated under any circumstances. He also appealed to the public to ensure that they purchase food items only from clean and reliable sources to safeguard their health and that of their families. He added that under the directions of the Commissioner, Food and Drug Administration, Punjab, such sampling drives will continue in the future as well.
