9 Cases Registered Under NDPS Act in April, 12 Accused Arrested

Additional Deputy Commissioner Ajay Chopra, while chairing the NCORD meeting held at the Mini Secretariat on Wednesday, issued directions to officials. He said that all concerned departments should work in coordination to make the district drug-free and take strict action against elements involved in the illegal drug trade. He said that the campaign being run against drugs should be made more effective and that any kind of negligence in this regard would not be tolerated.

He directed all SDMs to regularly inspect the de-addiction centres operating in their respective areas and ensure that all centres comply with the prescribed rules and standards. He made it clear that strict action should be taken as per rules against centres found violating regulations so that the quality of de-addiction services is maintained and needy people receive proper treatment.

The Additional Deputy Commissioner also directed that extensive awareness programmes be organized in all educational institutions to make children and youth aware of the harmful effects of drug abuse. He said that special campaigns should be conducted in schools and colleges to inform students about the physical, mental, and social harm caused by drugs so that they stay away from this evil. During the meeting, while reviewing identified crimes, he directed that pending court cases should be strongly pursued. Ensuring strict punishment for offenders through solid evidence, timely action, and effective presentation in every case is the administration’s priority.

He informed that nine cases were registered under the NDPS Act in April and 12 accused were arrested. He said that during this period, 7.40 grams of charas, 142.46 grams of heroin, 583.99 grams of ganja, and 1.579 kilograms of opium were seized. He added that regular checking is carried out at hotspots identified by the police with the help of trained dog squads of the Anti-Narcotic Cell, and action is taken as per rules whenever narcotic substances are found. He further said that with the assistance of the cyber cell, the activities of habitual offenders are being continuously monitored, and criminals previously involved in drug trafficking are being regularly checked.

DCP Narendra Singh, CTM Simran, Jail Superintendent Rajendra Singh, Utkarsh from OP Jindal University, and other concerned officials were present in the meeting.
