Pb BJP Chief Kewal Singh Dhillon Raises Farmers’ Issues with Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Chandigarh, June 4

In a significant move aimed at highlighting the concerns of Punjab’s farming community at the national level, newly appointed Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon met Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in New Delhi on Thursday.

During the meeting, Dhillon raised several key issues concerning Punjab’s farmers and sought greater support from the Central Government to strengthen the state’s agricultural sector. The discussions focused on the demand for a legal guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP), water conservation measures, modernization of irrigation infrastructure, improvement of rural roads and mandi networks, and a long-term roadmap to enhance farmers’ income.

Dhillon emphasized that Punjab’s farmers have played a pivotal role in ensuring the country’s food security and deserve policies that safeguard their economic interests. He urged the centre to continue working closely with stakeholders to address challenges faced by the farming community and promote sustainable agriculture. The meeting assumes significance as it comes days after Dhillon’s appointment as the Punjab BJP chief, a move seen as part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its outreach among the state’s agrarian and rural communities. Reiterating the BJP’s commitment towards farmers’ welfare, Dhillon said that Punjab’s farmers are the backbone of the nation’s economy and that raising their concerns before the Central Government remains a top priority.

The interaction is being viewed as an important step in establishing coordination between the Punjab BJP leadership and the Union Government on issues critical to the state’s agricultural sector.
