The Chief Minister Marriage Shagun Scheme, being implemented by the Haryana Government to support economically weaker sections, is proving to be a major support in the marriages of daughters and differently-abled persons across all sections of society.
Giving information in this regard, DC Aparajita said that the main objective of the scheme is to reduce the financial burden associated with daughters’ marriages in poor families and to promote women empowerment in society. She appealed to all eligible and needy families in the district to avail benefits of this welfare scheme by applying online through the portal shadi.edisha.gov.in.
She said that Scheduled Caste, Denotified Tribe and Tapriwas community families with an annual income up to Rs 1.80 lakh are provided a grant of Rs 71,000 for their daughters’ marriages. Similarly, daughters belonging to Backward Classes receive Rs 51,000, while eligible families from the General Category are given financial assistance of Rs 41,000 for marriage expenses. For this, the family’s annual income should be less than Rs 1.80 lakh.
She further stated that the government has also given special attention to women living in special circumstances. Widows, orphans, divorced and destitute women from all categories, as well as the marriages of their children and daughters, are provided a grant of Rs 51,000. In addition, women athletes with an annual income up to Rs 1.80 lakh are also entitled to assistance of Rs 41,000 for marriage.
Clarifying the assistance available for differently-abled persons, the Deputy Commissioner said that if both the bride and groom are differently-abled, they are given a grant of Rs 51,000. If either the bride or groom is differently-abled, financial assistance of Rs 41,000 is provided.
DC Aparajita also issued important instructions stating that to avail benefits of the scheme, the applicant must get the marriage registered within six months after the daughter’s marriage. She added that the application process has been made completely simple and convenient so that needy people can receive assistance on time.
