Lawrence of Punjab

Chandigarh, Aprilb 24

The documentary series “Lawrence of Punjab” will no longer be released on its scheduled premiere on April 27, 2026. The Center Government has imposed a ban on the release.

Earlier, the Punjab Police had written to the center government stating that the release of the documentary could prove to be detrimental to the law and order in the state. Meanwhile, Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, Congress president and Member of Parliament, had filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court regarding the issue. He also wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging immediate action to stop the release.

It is learnt that the family of Lawrence Bishnoi has also opposed the series. They raised concerns over its content, production process, and timing. According to the family, the documentary is not only factually incorrect but also disrespects the judicial system and Punjab’s rich cultural heritage. They further claimed that neither the family nor the government was consulted before making the series. Lawrence’s uncle, Ramesh, demanded strict action against the producers of the film.
