Bathinda Records Season’s Highest at 44°C, Yellow Alert Issued

Chandigarh, April 24

Severe heatwave has started billowing in Punjab and Chandigarh. More than nine districts of Punjab have recorded temperature above 40°C.

The highest temperature so far was recorded in Bathinda at 44 °C, nearly 4 degrees above normal recorded at an average in Punjab. Faridkot recorded (42.0°C), Patiala (41.6°C) and Ludhiana recorded (40.6°C).

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, Chandigarh at least 9 districts have crossed the 40°C mark, while seven districts recorded temperatures between 35°C and 40°C. Cities like Amritsar, Ferozepur and Gurdaspur also remained under intense heat conditions. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heatwave conditions across Punjab and Chandigarh for the next two days. However, there may be some respite ahead, as the weather department has forecast rain and thunderstorms between April 26 and April 29.
