Election Commission of India (ECI) Principal Secretary Malay Mallik on Thursday directed officials to expedite the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to ensure that the voter list is fully updated, error-free and includes every eligible voter.
Leading an Election Commission team comprising Assistant Section Officer Tejinder Singh and Junior Secretariat Assistant Dinesh Kumar, Mallik reviewed the progress of the SIR campaign during a visit to Rohtak district. The review covered voter verification, collection of enumeration forms, digitisation of electoral rolls and action relating to unregistered and shifted voters.
Mallik said the objective of the Special Intensive Revision is to ensure that every eligible citizen is enrolled while ineligible entries are removed in accordance with prescribed procedures. He asked officials to carry out the exercise with transparency and seriousness, stressing that a clean and updated electoral roll forms the foundation of free, fair and transparent elections.
The Commission also reviewed assembly constituency-wise progress with Electoral Registration Officers and other officials, directing them to ensure complete coverage at every polling booth so that no eligible voter is left out. Officials were instructed to accord the highest priority to the campaign and complete all pending work within the stipulated timeline.
The Election Commission further directed officials to accelerate voter verification and digitisation so that the exercise is completed within the prescribed schedule. Eligible voters were also urged to verify their electoral details in time and cooperate with the campaign. Briefing the Commission, Additional Deputy Commissioner Narendra Kumar said Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are conducting door-to-door verification of voters across the district. Verification of deceased, permanently shifted, absent and other categories of voters is also being carried out as per the prescribed procedure. The Commission instructed officials to ensure timely and fair disposal of all claims and objections.
Kumar said digitisation of the electoral roll is progressing steadily under the Special Intensive Revision campaign. Out of 850,304 registered voters in Rohtak district, digitisation of 567,887 voters has been completed, achieving 66.79 per cent coverage. Among the four Assembly constituencies, Garhi Sampla-Kiloi has recorded the highest digitisation at 72.19 per cent, followed by Meham at 68.39 per cent, Kalanaur (SC) at 63.88 per cent and Rohtak at 62.33 per cent.
He further informed that the verification drive has identified 20,619 deceased voters, 33,776 permanently shifted voters, 2,948 already registered voters, 3,129 absent voters and 323 voters under other categories. In all, 70,795 Unverified Elector Forms (UEF) have been identified in the district. The meeting was attended by Sampla SDM Ankita Puwar, Meham SDM Vipin Kumar, Rohtak Tehsildar Yashpal Sharma, Sampla Tehsildar Gulab Singh, Election Tehsildar Sarla Kaushik, Kanungo Karmapal, Rajpal Dhanakhar, Assistant Electoral Registration Officers and other officials of the Election Branch.
