Administration on High Alert as Monsoon Intensifies

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange and yellow alert for heavy rainfall across various parts of Himachal Pradesh till July 12, warning that monsoon activity is set to intensify across the state from July 5 onwards.
According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, widespread rainfall is expected over the coming days, increasing the risk of heavy downpours in several districts. Rainfall during the past 24 hours has already affected normal life in different parts of the state, with flood-like conditions reported in some areas. In Kalpa, located in the tribal district of Kinnaur, the minimum temperature was recorded at 14.2 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature reached 24.4 degrees Celsius.
As per IMD bulletin today light precipitation at isolated places likely over Lahaul-Spiti district and over the higher reaches of Chamba, Kangra & Kullu districts is expected.
Light to moderate rain accompanied with light thunderstorm/lightning & gusty winds (speed 30-40 kmph) at isolated places likely over Una, Hamirpur, Mandi & Bilaspur districts and over the remaining parts of Chamba & Kangra districts. Very light to light rain at one or two places likely over Shimla & Solan districts and over the remaining parts of Kullu district is expected.
The state government has directed all district administrations to remain on high alert to effectively deal with any monsoon-related emergencies. State government has deployed teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) at strategic locations, while departments responsible for roads, drinking water and electricity have been instructed to restore essential services immediately in the event of any disruption.
National Highway-5, which was recently blocked due to flooding at Choling in Kinnaur, was reopened within a few hours after restoration work was carried out by the National Highways Authority, normalising traffic movement. Authorities have urged residents and tourists to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and follow advisories issued by the local administration as the monsoon gains momentum across Himachal Pradesh.
