Juvenile Among Six Held With Pistols In Cross Border Arms Smuggling

Module Linked to Pakistan-based Handler

Amritsar, December 8

In a major crackdown on cross-border crime, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has busted a Pakistan-operated arms smuggling module with the arrest of six members, including a juvenile, and the recovery of six sophisticated pistols.

The operation, conducted as part of Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s statewide campaign to make Punjab crime-free, has exposed another link in the chain of weapons trafficking across the international border.

Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said the arrested persons were in direct contact with a Pakistan-based handler who used social media platforms to share coordinates for retrieving and delivering weapon consignments. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the gang was actively supplying arms to criminal elements operating in the Majha and Doaba regions for carrying out unlawful activities.

Those arrested have been identified as Gurbir Singh alias Sonu (28) of Tarn Taran’s Kotli Vasava Singh; Gurpreet Singh alias Gopa (32); Gorka Singh alias Gora; Rajwinder Singh alias Raju, all residents of Khem Karan in Tarn Taran; Jaspal Singh alias Jass (24) of Bachiwind in Amritsar; and a 16-year-old juvenile from Sultanpur Lodhi. Police have recovered five .30 bore pistols and one 9mm PX5 pistol from the accused.

DGP Yadav said further investigations are underway to trace the network’s financial and logistical extensions, identify the recipients of the weapons, and verify cross-border coordination channels.

Providing details of the operation, Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar said that the first major breakthrough came when an intelligence-led operation led to the arrest of Gurbir alias Sonu and Gurpreet alias Gopa, with the recovery of two .30 bore pistols. Their interrogation exposed the larger network, leading to follow-up arrests of Gorka alias Gora, Jaspal alias Jass, Rajwinder alias Raju, and the minor associate, with four more pistols seized.

The CP added that Gorka and Rajwinder are habitual offenders with criminal histories, including cases under the NDPS Act, and charges of rape and offences under the POCSO Act.

Two additional associates from Kapurthala district have been identified as receivers of the smuggled weapons, and police teams have launched a manhunt to apprehend them.A case under FIR No. 260 dated 30-11-2025, registered under Sections 25(6,7,8) of the Arms Act at Police Station Cantonment, Amritsar, has been taken up for further investigation.
