The Rock Garden of Chandigarh is a world-renowned tourist destination and a unique symbol of creativity and artistic excellence created by Padma Shri Late Nek Chand. The Rock Garden will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary on January 24 (Saturday), marking five decades of its existence as one of the most iconic landmarks of the city.
To commemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Rock Garden, a series of cultural and public-oriented activities will be organized on January 24 at the Rock Garden, Sector-1, Chandigarh. The Golden Jubilee celebrations will start with the lighting of Diyas and the floral tributes will be paid at the wax statue of Padma Shri Late Nek Chand by the Chief Guest Shri Mandip Singh Brar, Home Secretary-cum-Chairman, Rock Garden Society, Chandigarh. Chief Engineer, Chandigarh Administration, Superintending Engineer-cum-Member Secretary, Rock Garden Society along with Committee Members and other guests will also be there.
The programme will feature musical chair games and singing competitions for the general public. A major highlight of the celebration will be the Folk Dance Performances including Bhangra, Jindua, Ghoomar, Phag, Sirmouri Nati, Lambra, Dogri, Jagarna, Barsana Ki Holi and Mayur Nritya, to be held at Phase-III of the Rock Garden on January 24, in collaboration with the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC). In addition, day performers and mela artists such as Bazigar, Nachar, Been-Jogi, Stick Walker and Kathputli (Puppet Show) will also perform during the celebrations to promote regional and traditional culture.
The programmes shall be organized by the Society for Maintenance and Development of Rock Garden, Chandigarh, in coordination with the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), with an aim to celebrate the golden jubilee of the Rock Garden in a befitting and memorable manner.
