Nayab Saini Chairs Third Meeting of SMDA

Haryana Chief Minister and Chairman of the Sonipat Metropolitan Development Authority (SMDA), Nayab Singh Saini, chaired the third meeting of the authority and approved several major infrastructure and urban development projects for the Sonipat Metropolitan Area.
During the meeting, various agenda items related to strengthening urban infrastructure, expanding civic amenities and improving public services in the region were discussed and approved in the presence of senior officers from multiple departments. Among those present at the meeting were Energy, Transport and Labour Minister Anil Vij, Public Works and Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Gangwa, Cooperation Minister Arvind Sharma, MLAs Nikhil Madan, Devender Kadyan and Krishna Gahlawat, along with Mayor Rajiv Jain.
The approved projects include construction of a 45-metre-wide master road between Sectors 16 and 17, development of master road crossings connecting sectors in the Rai area, acquisition of land for remaining portions of master roads in various sectors, and construction of open courts and a pavilion at the Sector-4 sports complex. The authority also approved construction of a multi-level parking and commercial office complex in the urban area.
In addition, projects related to the development of a religious and cultural ghat at Mimarpur on the banks of the Yamuna river, strengthening of master sewer lines and improvement of the storm water drainage system across different sectors were approved. To improve sanitation and prevent dumping of solid waste, proposals for construction of retaining walls, flood walls and fencing along drains in Sonipat, Kharkhoda and Kundli areas also received approval.
The meeting further approved projects aimed at strengthening the urban drainage network using modern technology, expanding the master water supply system in different sectors and installing grid-connected solar power plants at water infrastructure sites to reduce energy costs and promote environmental protection. A proposal for construction of a four-lane bypass road for the Ganaur area was also approved. The project is expected to improve traffic movement and enhance connectivity for nearby villages and residents.
Addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini directed officials to plan future schemes and projects keeping in view the estimated population growth of the region so that citizens can derive maximum benefit from development works. He also instructed officers to ensure timely completion of projects and said strict action should be taken against contractors failing to complete works within the stipulated timeline.
With the approval of these projects, infrastructure and civic amenities in the Sonipat Metropolitan Area are expected to receive a major boost, particularly in sectors related to traffic management, drainage, drinking water, sports, tourism and environmental sustainability. During the meeting, CEO of the Sonipat Metropolitan Development Authority, Sushil Sarwan, briefed the Chief Minister on action taken regarding decisions from the previous meeting and informed him about upcoming projects.
Principal Advisor (Urban Development) D. S. Dhesi, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Arun Kumar Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary, Town and Country Planning and Urban Estates Department, Anurag Agarwal, Sonipat Police Commissioner Mamta Singh, Deputy Commissioner Neha Singh and other senior officers were also present at the meeting.
